Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, shared a picture of himself meeting an Iranian envoy on Sunday, in spite of allegations that he is in a coma.
Media reports indicate that Khamenei, 85, during a coma, selected his 55-year-old son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as his successor। The reports were prompted by an October New York Times story that Khamenei was “seriously ill.”
The image, which was uploaded on Khamenei’s X account, shows him in his office speaking with Mojtaba Amani, Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon.
“Ayatollah Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, met and spoke with Mr. Mojtaba Amani, the veteran ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lebanon, at noon todayĥ�,” he remarked in Persian during his daily meetings.
In September, Iran-backed Hezbollah militia’s pagers and walkie-talkies exploded in Lebanon, killing over 3,000 people। Iran and Hezbollah attributed the attack to Israel, which killed at least 39 civilians.
Amani gave him a report on his current health status, according to an official statement.
Last month, Iran launched 180 missiles aimed at Israeli infrastructure, prompting Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to deliver his first sermon in five years.
In an unusual speech on October 5, he endorsed the Palestinian and Lebanese protests against Israel, stating that it “won’t last long.”
Khamenei, addressing tens of thousands of followers at a mosque in Tehran, said that his missile strikes on Israel were a “public service.”
