Additional information has been added to the Game Awards FAQ page to confirm that TGA judges now consider “expansion packs, new game seasons, DLCs, remakes and remasters” as eligible for consideration. Shortlists are expected to be released on Monday, November 18th.
The website presently states, “The Game Awards aims to recognize the best creative and technical work each year, irrespective of the format of that content’s release।”Expansion packs, new game seasons, DLCs, remakes, and remasters are all eligible in all categories if the jury believes the new technical and creative work is worthy of nomination.
Aspects such as the information’s distinctiveness and cost or value should be considered.
This suggests that DLC like Elden Ring’s The Shadow of the Erdtree and remakes like Silent Hill 2 Remake could compete. Elden Ring has won TGA Game of the Year 2022.
This also shows that even though the original game was released years ago, seasonal DLC is still available in live-service games like Apex Legends and Destiny.
Several awards were also won by Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 last year, and the 2023 Game Awards broke its own viewing record, with over 118 million livestreams.
